Top 5 Sliver Stocks To Buy Right Now

[Author was long YHOO at time of writing]

Marissa Mayer Yahoo's Yahoo's CEO was granted a compensation package 2 years ago when she started that will pay her more than $200 million if she stays on the job for 2 more years and the current stock price doesn go up another penny.

That makes me, a Yahoo shareholder, angry given that a big part of her compensation is tied to the price of Yahoo stock which has increased from about $15/share when she started to $36/share today.  Normally, when a stock price goes up, most shareholders would be happy and they would be fine with a CEO receiving $200 million in compensation even if it does seem lavish.

However, in the case of Yahoo, Mayer is responsible only for the operations of Yahoo core business, which has been dramatically shrinking in value over the past two years although other parts of Yahoo have been increasing in value to more than offset this decline.

Consider this.

Two years ago when Mayer started, Yahoo stock price was trading around $15.75/share or $19 billion in market capitalization (with 1.2 billion shares outstanding).  Let break out the sum-of-the-parts making up that valuation at the time:

It's a view I've heard from Ford (NYSE: F  ) CEO Alan Mulally as well, who has often referred to "pent-up demand" in the U.S. market resulting from the huge dip in car sales during the 2008-2009 economic crisis, and the slow recovery in sales since then.

Ford (F) and General Motors (GM) delivered vehicle sales in November that exceeded or met analystsexpectations. So why are the stocks taking a hit today?

Oil prices spiked never good news for automobile makers. But more importantly, Ford warned that its North American production will slip 1.8% in the first quarter of 2014 amid rising inventories.

Automakers entered their year-end sales push last month with their biggest supply of cars and trucks in eight years. If buyers don absorb enough supply, more automakers, may need to follow Ford in trimming output to avoid margin-slicing discounts.

At $16.47, Ford fell 3.46% in afternoon market action, while General Motors dropped 3.38%.

Earlier today, General Motors, Ford and Chrystler, the three top U.S. automobile makers, as well as Japan Toyota Motors (TM) and Nissan (NSANY) raced past estimates.
